<p>The Individual and Society unit looks at the relationship between individual identities and society as a whole.  It covers the following material:</p>
<p>The <strong>building blocks</strong> of sociology (these can be found in <a title="Sociology Basics" href="http://www.mortonmail.com/test/?page_id=3">Sociology Basics</a>):</p>
<ul>
<li>Values, norms &#038; agents of socialisation</li>
<li>How people learn their social roles and how their behaviour is regulated by society</li>
<li>Social theories – functionalism, Marxism, feminism, interactionism</li>
</ul>
<p>You need to make sure you have a solid understanding of the basics, if you do not this will show in your answers and you will not be able to gain a high grade.  Your sociological understanding will also be drawn upon in your other two units.</p>
<p>The material that your exam questions will focus on</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Gender identities</strong> &#038; gender socialisation</li>
<li><strong>National identities</strong>, institutions &#038; the formation of national identities</li>
<li><strong>Ethnic identities</strong> &#038; their impact on social behaviour</li>
<li><strong>Class identities</strong> &#038;  their impact on social behaviour</li>
<li>Contemporary <strong>social change</strong> &#038; its impact on the above</li>
</ul>
